Cinco de Mayo (5th of May) is celebrated in Mexico as well as parts of the United States, like San Diego, CA.

 

 

 

Space Communications

Space Day and International Space Day is always the first Friday in May. Space Day was created by Lockheed Martin Corporation in 1997.  The goal was to motivate the youth of America to study math and science. This day was originally established as a one day event. An exciting topic of interest to millions, Space Day became an annual event. Former astronaut and Senator John Glenn expanded Space Day to International Space Day in 2001.

Mother’s day is celebrated on the second Sunday in May. Woodrow Wilson made it a national observance in 1914.

 

 

 

Eternal Flame

Memorial Day is held on the last Monday in May. This is to make the National holiday into a three day weekend. Previous to 1971 it had been observed on May 30th. The day is set aside to honor members of the military who died in service to their country.
