Paraprosdokian, are figures of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected; often humorous in a way that causes the reader or listener to reframe or reinterpret the first part. A paraprosdokian is extremely popular among comedians and satirists. Some paraprosdokians not only change the meaning of an early phrase, but they also play on the double meaning of a particular word.
This list of paraprodokians I received via a forwarded email and the email stated that Winston Churchill loved them. I don’t know if he actually did or not, but I sure have gotten “a kick in the funny bone” from reading them and I hope you do also.
